Our drive from Zion to Flagstaff was harrowing! We had a sustained wind of about 25 with gusts up to 57, all while going through the mountains. The broad side of our RV made us very vulnerable. Very scary at times. At one point, a gust blew us part way into the oncoming lane! Luckily, there was no oncoming traffic at the time and Denny gripped the wheel tighter after that. He fought the wind all the way to Flagstaff, his grip on the steering wheel was sort of like making a constant right turn. We discussed stopping at an RV park but there were none. We were driving through the Navajo Nation and it was pretty desolate. A trip that should have been 5 hours took us eight, with our speed generally in the 40s, even though the limit was 55-65!
His neck and back hurt by the time we arrived at our destination. Time for a beer! Luckily, the park that we had chosen was called Black Bart's and next door was Black Bart's Steakhouse and Saloon where all of the staff are singers. They took turns singing and sometimes all got on stage at once. We had dinner there and thoroughly enjoyed the talent. Awesome voices, most of the staff are theater and music majors from Northern Arizona University. It reminded me of the Golden Garter Revue at Dill's Saloon in TC. Fun night! And, we needed that after our drive!
